As your children's teachers, we know you are concerned about what's happening with contract negotiations between Snohomish teachers and the Snohomish School District.
We believe the Snohomish School District is ignoring the need to attract and
keep good teachers and to compensate them fairly. Their lack of support shows
disrespect for students and parents as well.
We believe your children deserve the best teachers in the state. We all know that to attract and retain the best teachers, they need to be adequately compensated. The Snohomish School District has the money to give teachers a fair and reasonable settlement. It's a matter of priorities.
Our out-of-pocket health care costs are skyrocketing. The district refuses to pay its fair share in helping to fix the problem.
We are losing special education teachers to surrounding districts
because they are attracting them with better compensation and working conditions.
All of our students deserve the best educators including our special education
students.

Reluctantly, Snohomish teachers went on strike September 4 to protect quality education for your children. Our actions are directed at the School District, not at our students or their families. It is an honor to teach your children and we hope we can get back to the business of doing that as soon as we get a reasonable settlement.
The Snohomish Education Association has gone to the bargaining table, with key bargaining points and compromises, in the hopes of achieving a settlement. The District has refused to establish parameters allowing for compromise. We want to keep communications open and keep you informed.
Working together, we can maintain a quality education for all of our students.
Thank you for your support.
